Kettlebell training is the most efficient way to build muscle while losing fat. According to Timothy Ferris in The Four Hour Body, it takes only 20 minutes twice a week to develop aerobic conditioning while toning your muscles, and all this without ever getting bored!
A war hero with the use of only one arm introduced me to kettlebell training in 2010. It looked like a metal bowling ball with a handle, and this veteran pressed it, swung it and did a strange maneuver called the Turkish Get Up (TGU) while I nodded admiringly and then promptly forgot about it.
In 2012, while studying for my coach’s certification at Wingate Institute, Shihan Ronen Katz showed up to do a kettlebell seminar. I protested, “No, that’s not for me.” I was asked to open up my mind and give it a try. Boy was it fun!
At the end of the first session I exclaimed, “I’m addicted! Where do I buy one?” I started with a tiny, 4 kilo kettlebell (I myself weighed only 47 kilo), but soon graduated to the 8 kilo, then the 12 – and I recently did a TGU with a 16 kilo bell, and now do swings with the 24, which is half my body weight.
It was so much fun I became a certified StrongFirst instructor and now get tremendous satisfaction from helping people – from post-partum mothers to pre-enlistment soldiers – get stronger, slimmer and feel good.
